Externships: Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Technician

For the duration of the externship, the student will be under the guidance of a clinical instructor/preceptor. The responsibilities of this externship include, but are not limited to, the following:

Following the laboratory’s procedure for collecting, handling and processing specimens;

Performing test analyses and reporting and maintaining test result records;

Adhering to the laboratory’s quality control policies;

Distributing laboratory stock in the laboratory and treatment area;

Adhering to the laboratory’s safety policies as defined by Patient First and OSHA;

Escorting, triaging and obtaining vital signs from patients;

Maintaining cleanliness of the laboratory and treatment area;

Other daily assigned tasks.

Minimum education and professional requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

All externship candidates must be sponsored by a school with which Patient First has an established affiliation agreement;

The Externship Coordinator from the extern candidate’s school must contact a Patient First representative to verify eligibility and schedule an interview.
